Kindle and Netgalley?

Hey guys, just wondering if you knew any information about using Netgalley with the Kindle.

  • Does it cost money when it sends the book to your Kindle?
  • Do you only have the book for a certain amount of time on the Kindle?
  • Are there any sort of time limits or restrictions?
Thank you for your help! I'll be getting the Kindle3 in two weeks for my birthday.

  1. As far as I know it does not cost anything. Just have NetGalley up to send to your free kindle email (you should find it on your kindle management page once you have your Kindle set up) It will go straight to your kindle (unless you are in Canada, but there is a work around for that, that is fairly straightfoward.)

I thought there was a 90 day limit, but not sure.

Enjoy your Kindle when you get it!

  2. Your getting the Kindle, super yaaay Stef. NetGalley is free and I think they have recently put a time limit on them, not sure.

And guess what...... Amazon just announced its Lending feature.

  4. It doesn't cost anything if you have NetGalley send the books to your free Kindle email. Otherwise it does cost a small amount.

They may have a time limit now. I do know that I got a book on May 16 and can still read it today (because I just checked).

  5. Steph, I just checked NetGalley about this expiration date thing. Check out the FAQ:
Why does this galley have an expiration date?
There are two kinds of expiration dates on NetGalley.

One type applies to any protected galley you download: the file expires a set number of days (usually 60, though publishers may choose other lengths of time) after you first open it in Adobe Digital Editions. You can see how many days remain until a file expires by looking at the upper right corner of the book’s cover in Adobe Digital Editions’ Library view. However, you can download another 60-day copy of the file from your NetGalley account if you need more time to finish reading, until the publisher archives the title. Just log back into your NetGalley account, click on My Reviews, find the title, and then press the orange Download Galley button again.
Some publishers also list an expiration date in the book description. This is the date the publisher plans to remove the galley from NetGalley’s catalog. After this date, you will not be able to download another copy of the file, or access the galley through NetGalley at all. Any copy downloaded to your computer, iPad, or Adobe-compatible reader will be available until you reach the Adobe Digital Editions expiration date, as described above. If you have used the Kindle option to send a copy of the file to your Kindle, that file will not expire, and will continue to be available to you.

I did learn the ADE (Adobe Digital Editions) could be downloaded again. I was worried that a couple I have are near to expiring but I don't want to read them until closer to the publication date. I wish all titles were available for the Kindle!

  6. I've used it and haven't incurred costs. You just need to add the NetGalley address to your approved senders list. As far as time restraints... I think you have a limited time to read the galley, which reminds me that I have some that I need to read before the time is up.
