Dear school....

September 20, 2010
... you are a giant fun-suck. Since you started three weeks ago, I've had hardly any time to read for fun. Instead, I've been reading Russian and Portuguese literature which make no sense, and the old classics, like Edith Wharton, which bore me to tears. I'm lucky if I can even get in 50 pages a day of fun reading, if, of course, I'm not too tired to do so after my mounds of homework.

So, school, while people try to comfort me by saying, "you've only got one more year left," I really don't feel excited because then... it's on to grad school. *le sigh*

    As a teacher I feel the same way. I have to grade all those papers and re-read the textbook again and my own reading and blogging suffers. So sad. Hang in there!! Summer is only 9 months away.

    You should reward yourself after every chapter of a school book you read to read a chapter of a fun book!

    Oh, I shouldn't have read this. I really, REALLY hope that The House of Mirth makes a miraculous comeback, as it is one of my all-time most favorite novels!!

    But when I was in school and reading things I really didn't like, I always treated myself to some fun reading before bed, but only if I met my reading goal for the day. It made reading economics a lot more fun. :)

    College is no fun! Lots of homework, but interning is fun! But yeah, I understand how you feel. Almost no time to read the fun YA books. ;(

    If it helps, just think about how your 'required' readings will help make you are more prolific reader.

    I totally remember college...I was lucky if I was able to get a book a month read! It will make you appreciate your free time once you're done with school, though. Best of luck! Your degree will totally be worth it! Just keep your eyes on the prize! ;)
