I can't believe you haven't read that!

There are a lot of super popular books and series that I have yet to read for various reasons, mainly time restraints or other books. Please note the key word: YET. Most people are surprised to hear it when I say I haven't read one of them, and quite frankly, so am I. BUT, rest assured, I have read many obscure and/or strange and/or less popular/unknown books that many of those people haven't even heard of... so I can always give a good book rec! ;)

Anyways, the following are some of the very popular books I haven't read, but that I do want to read at some point, so don't maim me just yet!

The Twilight Series (I've read a number of vampire novels... just not this one!)

The Hunger Games Trilogy (I felt so left out on Mockingjay's release date :-( )

The Help (Doesn't sound like my cup of tea... but I WILL read it)

Eat, Pray, Love (and I REFUSE to see the movie until I've read it!)

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (I hope it's all it's cracked up to be...)

...and here comes the big one. I'm already hiding my head in shame...

The LAST three Harry Potter books. Yes, I know, this is a travesty. Here's the deal. I love Harry Potter, I do! I always went to get the books the morning they were released, but in the years that the last three were released life got hectic and I want to really be able to INVEST myself in these final books when I read them, so hopefully, when I'm done with college (which is so soon I can almost taste it!), you bet your ass I'll be reading them. In fact, I'll be starting from the beginning of the series. When I finally finish, it will be magical.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has committed any of these book atrocities?! Now it's your turn to fess up while I go hide in the corner...

  1. I will admit that I haven't read Harry Potter but I watched the movie first and it's hard for me to go backwards. So someday when I forget the details of the movies I'll read them.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo I will read eventually and Eat Pray Love and The help don't seem like my type of books

Seriously though you need to pick up Hunger games and Twilight. ASAP! :)

  2. I haven't read The Hunger Games trilogy, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, The Help, or Eat, Pray, Love, either!

    Don't feel bad!

I think for me, (besides Harry Potter) I have a hard time reading hype books when they first come out. I see them all over the internet and blogs and everywhere, and I get afraid to read them because I'm afraid that if my expectations are too high, I won't like them.

So I usually wait a while before reading hype books :)

  4. You're not the only one, trust me. While I did read Twilight and Harry Potter while they were being released, I just recently got in on the Hunger Games, by that.. I mean I just read the first one on Sunday. But there are so many books I immediately buy because I want to read them, or I know they will be good.. but they've been sitting in my "To be read" pile for what feels like forever.

"The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan is one of them. The last two Anita Blake books.. The last Merry Gentry book, the entire Black Dagger Brotherhood series (and I own almost all of them, no kidding). Urg!

  5. Take your time. I haven't read a lot of popular books as well such as Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The most disappointing books are the ones which are hyped up so much and then you read it and find out you don't like it very much. Worst thing. However, please put Hunger Games to the top of your list!

  6. You aren't alone. I haven't read any of them except for the first Harry Potter.

  7. Well, the only books I've read on your list are HP series and Twilight. But the most anticipated books I'm dying to read is Stieg Larsson's The Millennium Trilogy, The Hunger Games (you're not alone ok!) and Percy jackson! Okay, so actually i'm on the same boat as you, and YET is always in my dictionary girl =)

  8. I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows the day it came out, and I was so sad when it was finished. No more Harry! No more Ron and Hermione! The Hunger Games and The Help are good books. I bought Eat, Pray, Love at one point, but I've now decided to skip the book and go straight for the movie. It's one of those cases where I'm sure I'll like the film adaptation better.

  9. I have similar ones but I have also made decisions, I will not read Twilight, Harry Potter and recently Larrson's series.

I tried Hunger Games but wasn't a fan, realised not a fan of dystopian.

Another on my list is Book Thief, I may still give this a try.

    Great post Steph

  10. *gasp*
No Twilight, Harry Potter, or Hunger Games?
But (and I know you've heard this) they are soooooooooooo gooood.

  11. Hey Steph, it took me FOREVER to read the last 2 HP books - I seriously just got around to it last summer. And I know so many people like to hate on it, but I actually liked the TWILIGHT books when I read them. They're not the best books you'll read, but they're decent, and I'm glad to see that you're going to give them a try!

  12. Okay, here goes: I've never read Harry Potter, the Hunger Games or Twilight books, hated Eat Pray Love, and loved The Help. I did read the first Stieg Larsson book but don't have a huge urge to get to the others.

  13. OK I've read the help.....very good book. Harry Potter, well I'd have to be in need of something to read to take that series on and we all know there are to many "to read and too little time". I am currently reading "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. You cannot read the 1st book in the collect and think it ends there. I am hoping that when I get to the end of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest that there is an end to the story or I will be horribly disappointed and the whole thing will have been a waste of my time.

  14. The only one of these I read was The Help. I didn't actually "read" it, I listened to it and it was great. I didn't think I would like it but I did.

  15. Haha, what a great post topic! I also haven't read The Hunger Games series and I felt left out on release day, as well!

For awhile there, I hadn't read Twilight or Pretty Little Liars (jumped on both bandwagons pretty late) but I did eventually get to them.

  16. You're not alone, Steph. There are plenty of books that either I want to read or probably should read but haven't.

  17. Okay, sign me up - I haven't read those books either. Seen some of the movies though!

  18. I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books! Or any of those above, actually.

  19. The Twilight Series - Read the first one to see what the fuss is all about. Thought it was just okay. Googled spoilers to see what happened to the next 3 books. Done! Don't feel like reading them :) Haven't watched the movie.

The Hunger Games Trilogy - Really really like the first two. The 3rd one disappointed me.

The Help - Had no interest in picking this up despite all the great reviews. Then finally gave in because there seemed to be no bad review?! And I'm so glad I read it even though I hardly read any historical fiction. Not prefect, but a good read.

Eat, Pray, Love - Like the first part in Italy, because it's about food :) Didn't like the 2nd part in India much. Third part in Bali was okay.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - Read the first book. Characters are memorable. However, I read a lot of murder/mystery, so the plot wasn't the best I'd read and was a little disappointed. I plan to watch the movies instead of reading the rest of the books.

Harry Potter - I think I read the first 4 books, and watched the first 2 movies? Then kinda lost interest - since at that time I had to wait for the 5th book to come out, by the time it came out I pretty much forgot a lot of the plot and characters, and didn't really feel the need to continue. I may watch the movies though.
