Welcome to another edition of goal setting for the new year. How very original. I’m going to recap how I did on last year’s goals, as well as list a few new ones for 2014.
2013 Personal Goals Recap:
I did pretty damn good on the personal goals I set for myself last year.
- I wanted to finish my MLS with a 4.0. BOOM, done.
- I wanted to get a house. Done and DONE.
- I also wanted to run my first half-marathon. Hell to the yeah, DID IT!
- The only personal goal I set that I did not accomplish was reaching my goal weight. I have now been on this weight loss journey for almost two years. I lost 93.5 pounds in 2012, and thought I could lose the last of it in 2013. This pretty much didn’t happen because the more you lose, the harder it becomes to lose. I’ve still got about 20–25 pounds to go, so maybe 2014 will be the year? I ended up losing an additional 24.5 pounds in 2013 for a total weight loss of 118… though I must admit, I gained a few back after my wedding, honeymoon, and holidays! Must get those extra few pounds off, then continue on to lose the whole 140 pounds that I want to lose.
2014 Personal Goals:
- Reach my goal weight: seriously, I need to do it this year. Jerry and I have been slacking big time since our wedding in October, and we have decided to really throw ourselves back into fitness. I have come too far and worked too hard to STILL not be happy with my body. The best part is, I’ve done it all naturally by eating better and exercising. No surgery, no pills, no magic – just good old-fashioned hard work. 118 pounds down, 22ish to go!
- Run another half-marathon: I know, this is the second goal that I am setting for the second year in a row, but I have been slacking BIG TIME on my running since I ran my first half in July. I need to do it again because while training for it, I was in the best shape of my life. I’d also like to beat my time, which was very bad (3 hours and 7 minutes).
- Run at least five races this year: again, trying to maintain and improve my fitness while getting back into running. Races always make me feel great, so I’d like to run at least five this year, distance doesn’t matter.
- Be more social: not sure how I’ll measure this goal, but I’m kind of a homebody. I’d like to get out more in general, as well as spend more quality time with my husband, friends, and family.
- Learn to maintain the home better: since we just moved out on our own, this includes things like learning to cook and cleaning more. Blech. Need to do it though.
- Go on vacation: I know this sounds like a silly goal, but before our honeymoon in October, I hadn’t been on a vacation in about… eight years? I’d like for Jerry and I to be able to save up enough money to go on a vacation again this year. We’d like to go to Florida to see my grandma, go on another cruise, or go to California to visit his dad. I was also invited to go to Ireland with my aunt and cousin in June. I always said going to Europe would be my big weight loss reward but I don’t think it is in the budget for me this year.
Bookish/Blogging Goals:
I didn’t reach any of my reading goals for last year. BAHAHA. Oh well. I guess that’s probably because I was kicking ass reaching all most of my personal goals. Whatever. Here’s some new goals I hopefully (but probably won’t) accomplish:
- Read 100 books: I set this goal every single year. I have yet to reach it, but I’ll keep on trying. I need to spend more time reading and less time wasting time (on my phone, on social media, etc.).
- Blog more often: I need to blog AT LEAST once a week, though twice would be even better.
- Do more personal blogging: this blog has always been a hybrid of book/personal blog, but I’d like to post more personal things on here. I’d say 95% of it is bookish at the moment, and I’d like to expand my horizons because I like to write and personal blogging is a good way to get my write on!
- Get more involved in the blogging community again: I used to be super involved, but then life got in the way. I need to read blogs more often, comment more often, and find more blogs to read. I hardly get comments anymore, so I need to re-immerse myself in the community. I can also participate in readathons and other activities to get more involved.
- Improve my blog’s Facebook page: I’d like to get more “likes,” generate more activity and conversations on there, and post more often. Even though my blog is 4.5 years old, that Facebook page is less than 2 years old.
Well, I think that about does it for me. I could set more goals, especially more specific ones, but 2013 was a crazy, huge year for me and I would really like to sit back and relax a bit in 2014.
Ta ta for now!
