Happy Friday, friends! It’s been another insane week on my end, so I’m thrilled that Friday is finally here… even though I have to work on Sunday. Hey, ya win some, ya lose some, right? Onto my five!
ONE.
My aunt and I saw the musical Fun Home on Tuesday and I absolutely LOVED it! I had no idea what to expect and I was blown away. It’s actually a true story based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel / memoir of the same name. It’s a coming of age story that takes place in her childhood, college years, and adult years. She figures out that she’s a lesbian and is learning to cope with that, as well as the revelation that her father was gay. It was fairly short and had no intermission. The acting was phenomenal, the music was great, and the story was so touching and real. Looking forward to the book now!
TWO.
Speaking of things I watched, I saw Bad Moms Christmas last weekend with my mom, aunt, and cousin. It was a riot! Kinda corny, yes, but hilarious. I really enjoyed it and I especially loved seeing my secret boyfriend, Justin Hartley from This Is Us.
THREE.
Christmas shopping has begun and I feel a huge sense of relief anytime I check someone else off my list. Luckily, we don’t need to buy for a ton of people this year because our budget is pretty tight with trying to pay off our debt and all. I try to get one or two gifts a week so we can space out the spending. Also, I know a lot of parents like to go crazy for Christmas, but that’s not our style. Caleb already has so much and doesn’t quite understand the holiday yet anyway. I picked out a few small things that I’ll be ordering for him and we’ll call it a day. One of those things is a dinosaur that he gets to paint. Pretty cute, right?
FOUR.
I finished a fantastic book recently that I just whipped right through: Final Girls by Riley Sager. It centers around three “final girls,” girls who were the lone survivors in three separate massacres. It looks like horror, but I’d classify it more as suspense / mystery. It was fast paced with tons of secrets, twists and turns, and a shocking ending. My reading numbers are low for the year, but I think I’m going to have to accept that during this time in my life… working motherhood to a small child. I’m still reading as much as I can, but gone are the days I could sit on the couch and read an entire book in one day. This makes the great books even better for me, though!
FIVE.
I made not one, but TWO new recipes last weekend. Say what?! For someone who is NOT a cook, that is quite a feat. Thanks to Torrie for the recipes and recommendations — she’s one of my favorite blog friends. I made One-Pot Taco Spaghetti and Korean BBQ Rice Bowls. They were both a hit and pretty easy to make. Jerry even requested the Korean BBQ for dinner again this weekend, so that’s what we’ll be cooking on Saturday. We’re going to double the meat this time and also double/triple some of the other ingredients to make it a bit more saucy for the rice. Thanks again my friend for the Torrie-food inspired weekend of cooking. 😉
The weekend is shaping up to be a pretty busy one, just like my week has been. I’m going to a Christmas card making class tonight at a girlfriend’s house, then going to see Murder on the Orient Express tomorrow with another friend. Sunday is a work day, but only for 4.5 hours. I’m finding myself caught up constantly in the dilemma of wanting to still see friends and be social, but also needing to spend time with my son. There’s guilt no matter what I decide to do, and I’m going to talk a lot more about this in a post next week. What are your thoughts on the topic? What are you doing this weekend?
That’s it, friends! Hope your weekend is a good one!
