WHAT'S UP WEDNESDAY (1): JUNE 2020

Aren’t introductions always kind of weird and awkward? Umm… this is my first time linking up for What’s Up Wednesday! I hate heat, so my brain kind of turns to mush in the summer. That said, I thought a fun and casual little linkup would give me something to talk about once a month, so here we are! On the last Wednesday of each month, you can link up with these ladies and share the below categories. Here’s what we’ve been up to lately.

What we’re eating this week:

The dietitian I’m working with in my bariatric surgery program is my sworn enemy at the moment. Kidding. Kind of. But yes, like the rest of the world, I gained weight during the quarantine, and I have to get it all back off to proceed with my surgery. She encourages me to meal prep, so on Sundays, I try to batch cook for the work week and pre-pack my lunches for work. This week was overnight oats for breakfast, brown rice with spinach and turkey for lunches, and chicken thighs with green beans and brown rice for dinner. She wants me to get my veggie and starch intake up, so that’s what I’m focused on right now. The kids are eating tasty things like chicken nuggets, and here I am with my green food. UGH! I hate healthy food, could you tell?

What I’m reminiscing about:

Childhood. It’s been an emotionally draining week, and after some disagreements with some of my family members, I am feeling all sorts of nostalgic about what things were like when we were kids growing up together. Yesterday’s password protected post is about this. Email me from my contact page if you want the password. I’m happy to share it, I just wanted to avoid certain family members reading and getting angry about it.

What I’m loving:

My newfound love of tea and drinking it every night with my hubby. I look forward to it all day because it helps satisfy my sweet tooth at night a bit.

What we’ve been up to:

Work! We’ve both been back at work for some time now (I’m in my sixth week back), so life is starting to feel normal again. Some stores are starting to re-open, so my mom and I are back to thrifting when we can. We almost always take the boys because Caleb is a thrift store lover too.

What I’m dreading:

My next appointment with my dietitian (they’re all virtual right now). She has zero compassion and I feel as though I’m not losing weight as fast enough as she wants me to. I tried to explain to her that I’ve been eating poorly my whole life and struggle with a sugar addiction… hence why I’m in this position to get surgery in the first place, but man… SHE COLD!

What I’m working on:

My diet. Trying to be good and get this weight back off. My blog. I updated a TON of pages last week. It’s crazy how fast blog pages tend to get out of date.

What I’m excited about:

My two besties and I are getting together on Friday with our sons! This is the first time we’ll be seeing each other since the pandemic started and I’m happy about that. Also excited about the 3 day holiday weekend we get next week.

What I’m watching / reading:

Jerry and I finished up Love and Life After Lockup, so now we’re waiting for the new season. I will feel a void in my soul until it returns LOL. We just watched a few episodes of Dark Side of the Ring this week too, and those are really interesting and sad. I’m currently finishing up reading The 7.5 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. This was the June book club pick for the virtual mystery book club I’m running at work.

What I’m listening to:

Country music, as per usual.

What I’m wearing:

It’s been so dang hot and humid, which I don’t do well with, so I’m wearing a lot of dresses right now. I usually refuse to wear them without leggings, but it’s too hot for all that right now, so bare legged it is!

What I’m doing this weekend:

I’m actually going to be off work on Friday because I have to go get an ultrasound, as needed prior to surgery (they check the gallbladder). I decided just to take the whole day off because why the hell not?! Then that evening is when I’m getting together with my 2 best friends and our boys. We don’t have many other weekend plans, which is always a positive in my book.

What I’m looking forward to next month:

4th of July and the three day weekend. Not much else going on for us in July!

What else is new:

Caleb had a really bad reaction to a bee sting last week. That was scary. His hand swelled up big time, and I ended up calling the on-call doctor at 9:30 at night. It ended up going down a couple of days later with Benadryl, but sheesh, that was scary. Also, any other Chris D’Elia fans who are shocked, sad, disgusted over these allegations? I just saw him last year when he came to town! I feel so sad even though he’s a celebrity so why do I care so much?! GOSH.
