FIVE ON FRIDAY (71)

Five on Friday

Happy Friday and Happy day after Thanksgiving! I hope you all had a nice day, however you spent it! Here’s what’s been going on with us this week.

ONE.

I was supposed to work Monday and Tuesday this week, then have off the rest of the week. Welp, ended up with a massively flat tire over the weekend somehow while my Jeep was just sitting in my driveway, so I had to call in to work on Monday and get it towed to the shop. Luckily I already had an inspection scheduled for Wednesday, but un-luckily, it messed up my work plans for the week. They finished it Tuesday afternoon, so I was able to go in late on Tuesday and get a couple of hours of work in before my extra long weekend. Didn’t quite finish my order deadline in time, so MIGHT have finished it on my couch Wednesday night, but MIGHT not have.

TWO.

Speaking of cars, Jerry also needed an inspection. Since we get my health insurance reimbursement check every November, we booked both of our inspections for this week. He needed four new tires and I needed brakes. Because of that check, we were able to pay cash for both (well, DEBIT, but you get the idea), and man, how nice is it to pay for major car repairs without having to use credit?!

THREE.

Thanksgiving was nice but… loud. We went to my parent’s house and spent the evening with them and my brother’s family, since they’ve all been in our COVID bubble already. He has three boys and we have two boys, and when you put five boys together, you get chaos. Dinner was delicious though and I made my yearly pecan pie. New this year, Jerry made a couple of Mexican treats: conchas and bunuelos. Also, Sheena and I made a gas store run so I could get some Diet Dr. Pepper (yes, I switched it up from my usual Diet Coke! LOL).

FOUR.

I’m making very good progress on my Christmas shopping so far and am close to being done. I think next week I’ll share a complete list of what we’re getting the boys. We never go crazy and tend to get them maybe just a couple of toys, some games, books, and then a big(ger) gift. Yesterday, I finally caught a good deal on the mini trampoline I’ve been wanting to get them. I have to go pick it up at Kohl’s this week. How’s your Christmas shopping progress going?

FIVE.

You guys, ALL I ever feel like doing anymore is watching Hallmark Christmas movies. I watch them every year and have always enjoyed them, but I usually only get through a handful every season, maybe 4 or 5? This year, I’m already 7 deep and it’s not even December yet. I honestly think it’s just the whole COVID thing and how awful this year is and how comforting these corny movies are. I’m honestly taken aback a little seeing people without masks, and hugging and getting close, and then I forget it’s a movie and not our COVID reality. In my mind I like to think I’m not really affected much, but then I find myself watching movie after movie and I am pretty sure that’s why. Everyone’s life is in upheaval. Gosh, even work is completely crazy since COVID. Our hours, job duties, and staff have all completely changed with no end in sight, and then last week, my old office roomie announced her retirement too and that was just another sad punch in the gut, though I am happy for her and completely understand. This year is just… ugh. At least I have my Christmas movies and books for now, right?

Thanks for reading — see you next time with more life lately.
