Another Friday, another peek into the chaos, calm, and everything in between. Here's what’s been on my mind this week…
ONE.
The last week or so, I was a ball of stress due to Caleb’s preschool situation. Jerry worked nights and was going to bring him to and from, and now he’s on days. Well… with both of us on days, how were we supposed to do this? (How do other FT working parents do it?!).
TWO.
This is kind of silly, but I got a new purse and I LOVE IT! When I was younger, I used to be obsessed with purses and bought them left and right, but now I just look at them as something I use and need, and I’ll use the same one for YEARS! Well, I needed to downsize a bit as my most recent purse was massive. I bought a crossbody bag from Amazon but returned it because the color did NOT match the picture, and it was really floppy. My friend Denise has a purse I love so I asked her about it, and it’s a 31 bag that I was able to find for a bit cheaper than retail on Mercari. It’s the perfect size, and it’s nice and durable.
THREE.
Friends are the best. I had some much needed friend time last weekend. I had dinner out last Friday night with my two besties and the moms (+ Caleb). It’s always so nice catching up. We used to spend EVERY day together growing up, and now adulthood makes it really hard to see each other more than once a month or so. I treasure these times together.
I also had a movie date with my friend Angela on Sunday. We saw Adrift, got the nice reclining chairs, and picked up lunch at the theater (this place has pizza, chicken tenders, potato wedges… odd but convenient).
Lastly, over the years, I’ve met some wonderful friends via blogging. Darby has become a good friend and sent some special books our way recently. I’m very grateful!
FOUR.
I am finally learning to cook (beyond basics and Crockpot meals, that is). My first meal was on Monday and I made this Sausage and Kale Skillet and served it over pasta. Everyone loved it and I totally impressed myself. Caleb even enjoyed the sausage (with some plain buttered noodles. Sigh). I was in the kitchen for about 40 minutes making this right after work, which I am not used to, but I’ll get there. Please send EASY recipes with just a few ingredients for me to try. I’d so appreciate it.
FIVE.
On Tuesday, my mom had my dad’s car (she doesn’t have one), so she was able to bring Caleb in for a program, painting rainbows. I love when I get to see him during the work day! Also… there was leftover cookie cake in the break room. What a great day. HA.
I am still definitely adjusting to our new schedule and routines, most notably having to get Caleb ready, packed up, and dropped off to my mom before work. I’m not used to that, and he was still in a deep sleep yesterday when it was time to leave. I had to wake him up and walk him out to the car still asleep. I also need to work on getting my timing right because now I’ve been running behind and it’s been chaotic. Fellow moms with kids in childcare, how do you manage?
