Fall Bucket List 2.0

I put this out last weekend...

Technically, it may be a little early to be talking about fall, but I just can’t help it! Summer is nice and everything, but I’m all about the fall over here. I’m not a hot weather kind of girl, and falls in New York are just amazing: perfect temperatures, crunchy orange leaves… it’s so refreshing. I honestly love the feeling I get when I walk into a store or restaurant and am greeted by pumpkins, cider, ghosts, and witches. I wish it could just be fall all year.

Even though fall doesn’t technically start for a couple of weeks still, in my mind, September 1st marks the season and it’s almost here! I hope the cooler temperatures come soon too since we’ve had a record breaking hot summer this year.

I made a little fall bucket list last year and managed to accomplish most of it, though not all. While this year’s list will have many similar items, I’m adding some different things too. Here we go:

  • Pick pumpkins! We manage to do this most years. We visit the farm of a family friend and it’s a fun day with a hayride out to the pumpkin patch, outdoor activities, adorable farm animals, and delicious treats.
  • Carve said pumpkins. We didn’t do this last year and I think Caleb would get a kick out of it.
  • Make at least one new crockpot recipe. This is my preferred method of cooking (read: I’m not a cook. Like, at all).
  • Make at least one fall themed treat. I’m thinking pumpkin dip with graham crackers for my pumpkin loving hubby! I’d like to make a few more things, but I’m setting the bar low here!
  • Go on a haunted hayride! I love all things scary, but the walk through haunted houses are a bit much even for me. The hayrides are silly fun and I love them.
  • Take Caleb to at least one Halloween event. Last year, we did three trick or treating events in the week leading up to Halloween: at the mall, the grocery store, and the library.
  • Host a Halloween gathering at our house! Last Halloween, my parents, brother, sister in law, and two nephews came over to trick or treat with Caleb and it was seriously the best. The kids had fun even if they were a little young to understand, we had dinner, played some scary movies in the background, enjoyed dip and treats, and handed out candy. Halloween is my favorite day of the year and I took off work months ago. Bring on Halloween! Now we just have to decide on Caleb’s costume and cross our fingers that Jerry’s day off request goes through (he works evenings… ugh).
  • Have cider and donut holes a time or two.
  • Have a scary movie night with Jerry. When we first met, one of the big things we discovered that we had in common was a love of horror films. Each fall, we usually pick a franchise and watch our way through it. We’ve done Scream and Halloween. Don’t know if we’ll be able to watch a ton this year with Caleb, but I’d like to have at least one night where we can kick back with some fall treats and a scary movie or two.
  • Watch the original Halloween. It’s a classic. It just needs to happen.
  • Read a horror book. I love horror and I have a big stack of them just waiting for me!
  • Do a little decorating. I won’t be doing a ton because Caleb loves to get into everything, but I do want to put some pumpkins and Halloween signs out in the yard and a few things inside too.
  • Go to at least one festival or event. We have a lot to choose from: apple festival, scarecrow festival, craft shows galore, and a fun event at The Garden Factory. I want to go to as many of these as possible!
  • Go primitive shopping! Let’s be real, I love to do this year round, but something about a fall ride out to the country where some of my favorite shops are just screams FALL FUN to me.

Looks like another fun fall will be in the works for us if we manage to complete some of my fall themed “goals.”
