FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions I get asked most often about my blog, my reading habits, and life behind the scenes.

📓 Blogging

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging back in 2009 as a college student who wanted a space to share book reviews. Over time, it evolved into something much more personal — a space to reflect, connect, and document my life. Now I share it's kind of a mashup — books, life, and the chaos in between.

Where did the name "Steph the Bookworm" come from?

It felt fitting at the time (and still does). I’ve always been a bookworm, and it was a simple, memorable way to brand my blog back when it was strictly book reviews. The name stuck — even as the blog grew with me.

Where can I find your old posts?

I lost my original domain in 2024, but I’m slowly rebuilding and re-uploading what I can find using the Wayback Machine and old archives. Everything new (and recovered) will be on this blog going forward.

Do you have a favorite post?

So many! But my monthly wrap-ups and deeper personal essays are the ones I’m proudest of. They feel the most "me." You can browse my Personal Essays or Month in Review posts to read a few.

📚 Reading

What kind of books do you like to read?

I dabble in a bit of everything, but I’m drawn to thrillers, horror, mysteries, and character-driven contemporary fiction. Give me emotional depth, messy people, suspense, or a spooky twist — the darker and twistier, the better. I also love a good true crime binge, YA read, or messy memoir.

How do you read so much?

I sneak in pages wherever I can — early mornings, lunch breaks, and always before bed. I always have a book with me, just in case. Bookworm hustle.

Do you review every book you read?

Sort of! I highlight all of them each month in my Recent Reads monthly wrap-ups with short reviews, and occasionally give full reviews to standout reads or books I have a lot to say about.

Do you finish every book you start?

Almost always. Even if I’m not loving it, I feel weirdly guilty quitting — so I usually push through.

What’s your dream reading setup?

A rainy fall afternoon, a cozy blanket, something spooky... and absolutely no one talking to me.

What’s your go-to comfort read?

Something with small towns, quirky characters, a little romance, or a twist I didn’t see coming.

Do you really not drink coffee?

Nope. Not even a sip. Diet Coke is life.

🧠 Life

What do you do?

I’m a public health worker by day, blogger by night — always chasing quiet time, good stories, and a little less chaos.

Are you still a librarian?

Not anymore — but I was for nearly 15 years. I have my MLS, and being a librarian will always be part of who I am. I still visit the library weekly and research like it’s my job (because it used to be).

What do you outside of reading?

Referee chaos between my boys, decorate for every holiday (but especially Halloween), avoid grocery stores by scheduling deliveries, and go full detective mode on crimes no one asked me to investigate. Priorities.

Are you an introvert or just antisocial?

Yes. (Kidding. I’m a hardcore introvert — I like people, I just like them… from a distance.)

What’s one thing you always have with you?

A book, my giant Owala water bottle (with LOTS of ice — the only way I drink water), emergency chocolate, and a Diet Coke from McDonald’s. Non-negotiable.

What do you watch?

If it’s emotional, nostalgic, or crimey — I’m in. Grey’s Anatomy is my ultimate comfort show (and yes, I still watch it), and Full House will always be a forever favorite. I also love trashy reality TV and any and all crime documentaries.

But come October, it’s Hallmark season. I make it a personal mission to watch every new Hallmark Christmas movie each year — starting early and tracking them all with color-coded checklists and ratings spreadsheets. Priorities.
