Five on Friday (38)

Happy Friday, friends! I’m excited for the weekend, though I do have to work. Tonight, I’m getting Mexican food and seeing the new 50 Shades with my besties. Tomorrow, I work all day. Blech. Gotta love the 6 day work weeks. The good news is though, I have a 3 day work week next week! I’m off Monday for a holiday, and Friday I’m off for working tomorrow. Holla! What are your weekend plans? Here’s what we’ve been up to lately.

ONE.

Last week was fun but busy! My aunt, friend, and I saw Get on Your Feet, the musical about Gloria and Emilio Estefan. I didn’t really know much about them before, but we all LOVED the show. Wonderful singing, dancing, and acting, and an amazing love story! Caleb also had a playdate over the weekend with his buddy John, who sweetly gave him a hug. We had pizza and us parents had just as much fun as the kids. They even gave me a birthday gift which was such a sweet surprise! Making friends as an adult is so tough but so rewarding. I also received an amazing surprise package in the mail for my birthday from my dear friend, Beth, who totally outdid herself again. It was a good week!

TWO.

Jerry and I didn’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day on the actual day because we had to get our taxes done and both worked that night. He surprised me yesterday though, and it was the sweetest thing of all time. When I get out of work, he’s already gone and at work (he works evenings), so I was at the gym after work when he texted me to rush home because he was nervous that he had left a candle on. So I did, and I was greeted by such a sweet sight and an elaborate little set up he put together. On our table, he had candles lit (eek), twinkle lights lit, real rose petals from the florist, candy, cookie cake, a beautiful card, a small candleholder filled with candy… and a new wax warmer! He picked out a mason jar one for me (because I love mason jars), and had it plugged in and going with wax already in it. He obviously knows the way to my heart is through wax, candy, and cookie cake… and also with words. I always ask for cards. I was blown away and almost in tears. Neither of us are really romantic at all anymore, and even though marriage can be hard at times, it reminded me that I am loved and that my husband gets me. He knows what I love and he knew I needed that reminder. This is the kindest gesture he’s done for me since he surprised me at our wedding by having the DJ play Marry Me by Train and throwing down rose petals. Our communication is sometimes crap and we argue more than I’d care to admit, but at the end of the day, we love one another and our little family. I needed this more than he could possibly know and I appreciate it more than words can say.

THREE.

We got our taxes done this week and are getting more back than we’ve ever gotten, so that’s exciting. With some of the money, I’d really like to book a babymoon to Florida so we can visit my grandma and relax a bit before baby 2 comes, so we’ll see!

FOUR.

Caleb took Music Together classes for over a year and he LOVED them, but his teacher moved last year. Womp womp. We just found a new music class called Musikgarten, and he’s really enjoying it so far. He goes once a week and has done three classes so far. His behavior has improved each time, and he listens more, participates more, and runs around less and less each time. He really loves when they play instruments, and when we run/hop/gallop around the room. His new teacher has been incredibly supportive of his “unique” behavior, and has been trying to find activities for him that will hold his attention.

FIVE.

We finally joined the YMCA last month and it’s been great so far! Caleb loves going to the “dim” as he calls it, and playing in the kid’s area. I’ve been working on getting there 2-3 times a week, and often swing by after work because it’s literally two seconds away. I’m taking it easy for now and just walking on the treadmill, but I look forward to getting back into shape and doing some classes after the baby is born.

That’s five for now — see you in the next chapter.
