Five on Friday (55)

Lord, it has been a BUSY few weeks, with a busy next few weeks too. Our calendar is packed to the BRIM with all the fall / Halloween activities and I am loving them… but I also can’t wait for things to slow down a bit, too. Here is what we’ve been up to lately.

ONE.

My aunt and I attended our first musical of the new season last week too (we’re season ticket holders). We saw Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t overly excited because I’m not really into her music, but the show was great! She lived quite an interesting life and I recognized many of the songs. The acting was well done and the singing was phenomenal. It was also on the shorter side and didn’t have an intermission, so I was home by around 9:30! Usually we don’t get home until 11, which is way late for grandma ME.

TWO.

Our SIXTH wedding anniversary was last weekend. That flew by! To celebrate, we took the kids to one of my favorite yearly activities called Scream Fest. Caleb did “bike” or treat (from motorcycles), a puppy kissing booth, and we strolled around just checking out vendors. That night, Jerry made Chicken and Artichoke French for dinner which is one of my favorite meals. It’s kind of involved, so he’d never made it before, but it came out so, so good. I made cookie butter blondies for dessert. That night, we watched Hell House LLC II and thought it was really good. He surprised me with a Halloween doll, pumpkin figurine, and a lighted leaf string because he knows how much I LOVE to decorate, and for fall / Halloween in particular. I got him a NECA Michael Myers to add to his collection of which he now has… two!

THREE.

A couple weekends ago, Jerry and I took Caleb out to another farm market that offers nighttime “spooky rides” for families and kids. Think haunted hayride LITE. There aren’t any human actors, and all the scenes are animatrics, lights, moving characters, etc, so it’s really not scary at all and mostly just fun. We left Holden with my parents for the evening and had a fun little night with just our big guy. We got cookies and cider slushies, walked in their teepees (filled with lit jack-o-lanterns) and just hung out. It was POURING OUT, but Caleb had been looking forward to it all day (“is it time for the hell ride yet?”) so we braved the rain anyway. I called ahead of time to make sure the hayrides were still going, and they said yes. After we arrived and bought our tickets, the guy who drives the wagon said he wasn’t sure if they’d be running it. UGH! After some shuffling around, the ride was on! It lasted about 15 minutes and Caleb had the best time ever. He was shaking with excitement and hasn’t stopped talking about it since. I asked him what his favorite part was, and his response was “everything!” We’re going to go back tonight with the whole family (Holden included!) because he’s been anxious to go again. I’m really looking forward to it! I will say though that when we picked Holden up, Caleb said “give him away!” *Sigh.* Brothers.

FOUR.

Last night, my two besties and I went to a Hocus Pocus event! Kathy Nimjay (aka Mary Sanderson!) came and did an onstage interview and Q&A, and then they screened Hocus Pocus on the big screen. The three of us watch this movie together every single Halloween season, so this was definitely a more exciting viewing for this year! Kathy was really funny, and it was cool to learn about her career and find out some cool things about the movie.

FIVE.

Other random happenings as of late: I FINALLY resumed my laser hair treatment that I had to quit while pregnant. I did my first ever Amazon return at Kohls which was so easy and convenient. I had my personal book club last week (we didn’t read the book… oops!) and my Forever YA work book club this week (we read Sadie by Courtney Summers… so good!). Jerry effing saw John Lithgow driving on the expressway on his way to work. He texted me and said “I swear I just saw someone who looks just like John Lithgown in a red Jeep.” I googled him and lo and behold… he’s from here. HA! We never had any idea and that definitely confirmed it was him. I got two free vintage chairs from someone off of Facebook Marketplace, which I collect for my primitive dolls, so that was a score. I have also resumed exercise after a fairly lazy August and September. I’m now going for walks outside because I just love fall, the sights, and the cool temps. It’s kicked my butt back into gear and I love going on weekend mornings, or evenings after work. I’ve been listening to my first ever podcast (Serial), and it’s been relaxing.

And that sums up some of the craziness of the last couple of weeks!

Tonight we’re going back on the spooky hayride with the family, and tomorrow night Jerry and I are doing the actual adult haunted hayride with my friend Angela and her hubby. Busy weekend again, but that’s the norm for us during this spooky season that I live for.
