8/10/18 at 34+4! |
It’s been four weeks since my last update so YIKES! Lots has been going on so I ended up breaking this update into sections. Here we go!
Appointments
- I had my 32 week appointment a few days early on 7/19. It was quick and easy, and I got my TDAP vaccine.
- I had my 34 week appointment and monthly growth ultrasound on 8/2. They had the scan scheduled for 10:30 and the doctor’s appointment for 11:45 so I thought I’d have to sit around waiting, but luckily, the doctor saw me right away. The scan went well and I got my first 3D view for the entire pregnancy. The baby appears to have a wide nose – LOL. We also saw hair on his head… aww! He was about 5 pounds, 7 ounces and is still measuring 67th percentile. I am measuring about 2 weeks ahead… yikes! My BP was very slightly elevated for the second time this pregnancy, so I am now on a weekly appointment schedule.
- I had my next weekly appointment on 8/8. It was quick and easy, although the doctor said that since my BP has been elevated, the baby will most likely be delivered early. I have my next appointment tomorrow, so we’ll see what he says then. I’m really not sure HOW early we’re talking. I’m getting a little nervous.

Baby Prep and Items
- We ordered our new infant carseat last month – yay! We got the infant seats installed in both cars over the weekend and had Caleb’s both adjusted too.
- I got some free formula samples and coupons in the mail so we’ve now got at least a small stash. I’m not planning on buying any formula or bottles until we know what the baby likes/tolerates, but at least we will come home to SOME in the house.
- I ordered some baby laundry detergent so I can start washing and prepping everything.
- I got some baby clothes from my sister-in-law so I can finally stop stressing about the clothes situation. We still can’t locate all the newborn and baby clothes we packed away from Caleb, so luckily, my SIL came through! My mom has also purchased some clothes for him too. Phew. Now time to sort everything into his dresser.
- I visited with my two besties and our moms last week and they were sweet enough to give me gifts for the baby! Swaddlers and lots of cute clothes. I am lucky to have the best friends in the world.
- We also ordered newborn socks and bibs because I all of the sudden realized we had none of those things and they’re kind of necessary. Sigh. I hope I’m not forgetting lots of other things.
- In the same order from Walmart, I ordered a couple of things for myself for post-partum: a couple of yoga pant outfits for $10 each and some sports bras. I’ll be packing one of those outfits in my hospital bag for going home. I’m still deciding on going home outfits for the baby. Speaking of which, I need to pack my hospital bag this month! Remind of what I need please, people! It’s been a long time since I’ve done this.
Symptoms
- On Sunday, 8/5, I was grocery shopping and decided to check my blood pressure at one of those store machines. It was THROUGH THE ROOF! It was 153/100… extremely high and it’s never been that high. I immediately called the on-call doctor who sent me to triage at the hospital. Jerry and I were there for about 2.5 hours and I was hooked up to a blood pressure reader and a heart monitor for the baby. Not only was everything great, but my blood pressure was actually lower than average and they said it was perfect. This led them to believe that maybe the machine I used was not calibrated. Sheesh! What a scare! At least I’ve only had one triage visit so far with this pregnancy. We had quite a few with Caleb.
- I’ve been feeling extremely pregnant ever since I hit week 32. I have reached the point of no return! Prior to that, I was still having days where I felt pretty good, but not anymore since we’re in the final home stretch now! I’ve been sore everywhere, my feet are swollen like elephants and so are my hands. I think I’ve developed pregnancy carpal tunnel because my fingers and wrists are sore and stiff, and they get numb at night. I also deal with intermittent nausea, heartburn, breathlessness, and headaches. Eek!
- Speaking of swollen feet… I cried over the weekend because I was getting ready for my best friend’s bridal shower and I couldn’t comfortably wear ANY of my shoes anymore. Everything was a no go including flats, sandals, and sneakers. Cue the tears! And then let’s not talk about the fact that I’m a bridesmaid and I can’t go to the wedding because it’s out of town on the day before my due date and I’m crushed to have to miss it. Pregnancy hormones are no joke, people. Anyway, Jerry, Caleb, and I ran to Walmart and I could hardly fit into anything there, either. I ended up finding one pair of shoes that fit: men’s wide memory foam sneakers that I will now be wearing exclusively for the rest of the pregnancy. Lovely. I looked fabulous at the shower with my hideous shoes and floral dress, as you can imagine!
