Five on Friday (42)

Another Friday, another peek into the chaos, calm, and everything in between. Here's what’s been on my mind this week…

ONE.

Mother’s Day was pretty uneventful, but nice. We had breakfast pizza at my parent’s house with my brother’s family, and my aunt joined. The kids played outside and “hiked” in my parent’s woods. After that, we went home and put Caleb down for a nap. Once he got up, Jerry and I went and saw the movie Breaking In while my mom babysat. We were planning on going out to dinner, but we were too full, so the three of us went and got frozen yogurt instead of dinner. The ice cream was fantastic, but the movie was only okay.

TWO.

We went on our twice-yearly water park getaway last weekend with my parents and my brother’s family! The boys had a blast, as usual. I couldn’t go in the hot tub this time because of the pregnancy, but I went in the pool and watched Caleb go up and down the little yellow slide approximately 100 times in two days. HA! Dinner at the hotel was great as always, and Jerry and I decided to surprise the boys with a “Water Park Party” cookie cake!

THREE.

Since we went on our little getaway on Friday, Jerry and I both had off work and it was so nice! We ran a lot of errands (grocery shopping, Walmart), and then had a fun little afternoon too with Caleb. After the errands, we headed to the mall to pick up the cookie cake and we all had lunch in the food court. I also had to take Caleb on the carousel… his favorite. He is such a fearful kid though and won’t ride on the moving horses anymore. Instead, he always picks a stationary seat. After that, we had a little family nap before heading out to the water park.

FOUR.

Another fun little Mother’s Day activity was that on Saturday night after I got Caleb ready for bed, my mom, aunt and I went to see Overboard! I loved it! I thought it was so cute and funny. Plus, we went to a theater that had reclining seats. Yessss. Speaking of movies, on Monday I went and saw Tully with a girlfriend at a different theater with reclining seats. Yesss again. I liked the movie quite a bit and was pretty surprised by the end. I connected a lot with Charlize Theron’s character who, like me, struggled with Postpartum Depression. Seeing the montages of her waking up, feeding the baby, changing a diaper, waking up, feeding the baby, doing it all again, etc. gave me flashbacks and made me a liiiittle nervous about doing it all again this fall. I’d definitely recommend this one for moms who struggle with trying to be perfect.

FIVE.

I recently bought myself a Kindle Fire 8 and I’m really liking it! I bought an iPad years ago and didn’t use it much. Once we signed up at the Y, I wanted to start using it again so I could watch Netflix while working out, and go figure… Caleb broke it. He also broke his own Kindle Fire 7 around the same time. Amazon was having a sale of the 7’s for $40 (usually $50) and the 8’s for $60 (usually $80) so we both got new Kindles. I may or may not read more eBooks now… we will see. I’ve had an old Kindle Keyboard for YEARS and have only ever read a few eBooks on there.

That’s all I’ve got this week! It ain’t over yet, either. I’m working ALL day tomorrow… in the kid’s room. Lawd, help me. Send chocolate.

Then Sunday, I’ve got my friend’s bridesmaid lunch, so that will be nice… and then poof, the weekend will be done. The good news is, I’m off next Friday for working tomorrow, and then off the following Monday for Memorial Day, so at least I’ve got a four day weekend to look forward to after this six day work week.

What are you up to this weekend? Have you seen any of the movies I mentioned? I have two more May movies to see: Life of the Party and Book Club.
