I had high hopes for April: our first official no-spend month. Just necessities. No extras. No Amazon binges. Shockingly, even Jerry agreed — and if you know the man’s love of Prime, you know that’s no small miracle.
Honestly? I thought he would crack first. But it was me.
We made it to April 13. Then a friend messaged me about a rare Halloween Lemax piece — one I’ve been eyeing for years. These things go for hundreds… but this one? Just $50. Slightly damaged, but still. My collector brain short-circuited. I jumped on it. Then I added a few more pieces. And the following week? Some more figurines. Cheap books. A country lunch date. Primitive shopping.
I broke the rules.
And while I felt a little ashamed, I also felt something else: a little joy.
The truth is, I’ve spent years denying myself things — all in the name of financial progress. And while I absolutely believe in discipline and budgeting, I’m also learning to live with my money, not just against it.
That said… I haven’t forgotten the goal.
I dream of a country home. A quiet farmhouse. A wraparound porch. That’s why we’re trying to rein it in. That’s the vision I hold when it’s hard to say no.
So no — April wasn’t perfect. But it was progress. And I’ll try again soon. Because I know what I’m working toward. And someday? That wraparound porch will be mine.
