BABY #2 BUMPDATE: 29 - 31 WEEKS

Today, I’m 31+1. Less than two months to go now. WOW! Here’s what’s been happening in the last three weeks:

  • I had my 30 week appointment a few days early on 7/3/18. I also had my monthly growth ultrasound that day. Jerry was still at work, so my mom and Caleb came. It was her birthday, so we thought it’d be fun for her to see the ultrasound. The baby looked really good and right on track for growth. We saw his little mouth opening and closing, and then the tech caught him right in the middle of a yawn, resulting in the best ultrasound picture ever. Behold… Baby Scream Mask Face below. I saw the doctor and he said all was well. My blood pressure was a tiny bit elevated, but he said it was normal for this stage in pregnancy. He also said baby was measuring at the 69th percentile, and could be around 8 pounds at birth if he stays on this track. I’m not sure how much I believe in these guesstimates though. I was told Caleb could be 9 or 10 pounds and he was 7 pounds, 13 ounces.
  • I’m still feeling unprepared. We really don’t know what size he will wear at birth, and if he’ll need cold or warm weather clothes. We have a few things so far (really cute sleepers from my mom), but still need to get some items. We’re ordering a new carseat this week. We still have one from when Caleb was a baby, but the other one expired and we need one for each car. I’ll feel a bit better after that arrives! We’ve also got to start getting some smaller ticket items like bottles and binkies.
  • My mom came over yesterday while Jerry worked OT to help me work some more on Caleb’s big boy room. We’ve got to get him out of the nursery soon so we can finish prepping it for the baby. We got new toy bins and his second dresser moved into the new room, along with some fall clothes. The nursery is starting to clear out bit by bit in preparation for our new guy.
  • I’m definitely starting to feel super pregnant. At the end of a busy work day, my feet start to ache and sometimes swell. I’m getting heartburn here and there again. My back is the worst though. It hurts quite a bit and it’s hard to get comfortable. My ribs and lungs always feel constricted too. Honestly though, I really can’t complain. This is all normal stuff and all things considered, I’m doing just fine.
  • Sleep, of course, is now becoming more challenging. The back pain is horrible at night and it’s hard to get comfortable. I’m also up a few times a night to visit the bathroom. All normal, though. Also… super weird and vivid dreams. I wake up in the morning and am like “WTF mind?!”
  • I’m getting cramps in my stomach region once in awhile now, especially if I’m walking a lot or too fast. I’m thinking these are more Braxton Hicks. Blah!
  • I’m trying really hard to lay low on my weekends and days off. It’s too hot for me to go out much, and I’m tired and sore a lot. I’ve had to skip some parties and gatherings over the last few weekends. I hate to disappoint people, but I really need that rest and break on the weekends after working all week.
  • I haven’t really done much in the maternity clothing department at all this pregnancy, which is a nice money saver! I basically live in dresses or leggings/tunics right now, and those are all long enough to cover the baby bump. I think I’ve purchased 2 pairs of maternity leggings, and that’s it. My regular leggings are fine still. Yay!
  • On a good note, the baby’s movements are really big and frequent. He sometimes does these super quick, flutter type movements too. I can feel him from the outside quite a bit now which is always fun.
  • I had a meeting last week at work about my maternity leave, so that’s a major relief. We went through all of my duties and figured out who would be covering each one while I’m out. I feel a lot better now, and will do some small training in August to prep some of those people. My boss is planning on me being out for 12 weeks, and will have coverage for me until then. I told him it’ll likely only be 8-10 weeks now due to finances, but we’d rather have that safety net and I can just call and come back earlier than the 12 if I want to. That’s what we did with Caleb and it worked out well. I went back when he was around 9 weeks. As of right now, my last day will be around September 13th.
  • This Thursday is my 32 week appointment, and I’ll also be ordering the carseat on that day! Good stuff coming up!
