Thankful Thursday (11)

Apparently, I haven’t done a Thankful post since MAY! Eeek! It’s high time for another list of all the little (and sometimes big) things I’ve been thankful for lately! As always, I am linking up with Rebecca Jo!

Baby and best friend visits

I’ve gotten to visit my best friend and her new little guy in the hospital a couple of times since he was born and I’m incredibly thankful for SO much surrounding this. He was born early and is getting big and strong, and my friend is looking and feeling fantastic after a scary time.

A quiet 4th of July

Grateful that I had a paid day off and that we kept it low key this year… also that I wore my hot dog shirt. In the morning, I brought Caleb to my parent’s for the boys yearly 4th photo in matching shirts, then we headed home for the rest of the day. Jerry cooked out, I made my favorite Diplicious Southern Pecan pie which we devoured, and we watched a good show on TV (Cults and Extreme Beliefs), After, we went to bed early for work the next day. It was a quiet, relaxed day which is what all three of us like. No parties, loud noises, crowds, etc. The fireworks display here is a mob scene, so we happily skipped it and will probably not take Caleb until he’s a bit older and can tolerate noises and crowds better.

Our grill

I’m learning to cook, but I’m grateful we have a grill which takes me off cooking duty at least 1-2 times a week! Jerry made some steak last week, plus our 4th of July dinner. Yum.

Caleb's amazing speech progress

Caleb has been making incredible progress with his speech. I feel like I mention this every time I do a Thankful post, but it’s truly amazing. It’s also hilarious. Here are a few examples of some of his recent conversations and words:

Me and Mimi: Caleb, what do you want for breakfast?

Caleb: Ice cream.

Me: No ice cream for breakfast.

Caleb: VANILLA ice cream.

*Caleb brings me his 5th Capri Sun of the day*

Me: No more juice. Have some of this water.

Caleb: I. Want. Juice.

*Caleb, holding up the iPod that he thinks is a phone to his eye since he loves taking pictures*

Caleb: Say cheese Caleb’s phone.

*Caleb, EVERY single night, trying to get out of going to bed*

Me: Caleb, it’s bed time.

Caleb (really fast): I’m not feeling good.

*Seeing the TONS of poop from the dog*

Caleb (laughing): So many poop.

Caleb: I love Pop Tart.

Caleb: Is blowing! I like fan.

Early bedtime

Jerry works early in the summer and is up at 4:30. He’s been going to bed early which means I’VE been going to bed early. Y’all know I love me some sleep! I usually read a bit with my Kindle so I can have the lights off for him, then hit the hay by 10:00 myself. Ahhhh. Thankful for some sleep before the baby comes.

Dresses and fans

Being super pregnant in 90+ degree weather is no joke, so I’ve been wearing dresses ALMOST every day. I also picked up a small desk fan for work on Amazon. Ahhh. Grateful to stay as cool and un-bloated as possible!

Spending time with a favorite blog friend

One of my favorite thankful things of the week… I’m so grateful for getting to spend the day with one of my absolute best blogger friends, Meg. She doesn’t live around here, but does visit from time to time since they have some family who live somewhat nearby. We’ve now had the opportunity to get together twice over the past few years and it’s always such a treat. The first time was back in 2015 when our guys were still babies! Last weekend, we got to see each other again and it was wonderful. We met up at an indoor play area for kids about an hour from me and got to spend time chatting and laughing at the kid’s antics, followed by lunch. Her family is so great and I enjoy every chance we get to see each other!

Extra reading time

Now that I’ve deactivated Facebook (more on that next week), I’ve been able to read A LOT more! After Caleb came, I’ve been averaging a measly 2-3 books a month, but now I think it’ll be jumping back up to 4 or 5!

Baby surprises on my desk

A couple of coworkers have left me little baby surprises on my desk: diaper / wipe samples and disposable bibs. I work with some really thoughtful people and these will be perfect to toss in the diaper bag!

Thanks for reading — may your Thursday hold more good than expected.
