You are stubborn from the top of your head, to the tips of your toes, little boy. You know what you want and you know how to get it. You refuse to give up, refuse to cave in.
Just like mama.
You dip everything in ranch, and have an insatiable sweet tooth. You will never turn down a good bowl of ice cream or a cookie fresh from the oven.
Just like mama.
You’re not one to freely give out affection. Hugs are hard earned, kisses are a rare treat. You love people in other ways because affection isn’t your strong suit.
Just like mama.
You kind of hide your smile sometimes when you think something is funny. A strange contortion of the mouth while you try and cover up your delight. But other times, you laugh with your whole face and your whole belly and you just can’t stop.
Just like mama.
You cower in huge crowds, recoil at too much noise. You’re easily overwhelmed and are better suited to small groups of people. Parties aren’t your thing, and too much noise and activity send you running.
Just like mama.
You have a one track mind and get easily obsessed. From one thing to the next, your obsessions consume you until you move onto a newfound one… and surely you will. You always do.
Just like mama.
In so many ways, I see me in you. In so many ways, I see traits all your own, habits and ticks that I can’t claim as mine. I think we all hope for some of who we are to be passed down to our kids, while hoping that other traits stay firmly in us, and us alone.
In so many ways, he is just like me. In so many ways, he is just like his father. In so many ways, he is just like Caleb though, and no one else.
He runs laps around the house, bursting with an energy that neither of us have.
He rolls his eyes back when he’s tired and can never hide the fact from a single soul.
He gives marching orders, demands we change the songs in the car, is the world’s number one backseat driver, and yells “is green! GO!” even when it’s red. He picks at snacks all day instead of big meals, lives for a good bath bomb, and yells when we roll the windows down.
Sometimes he drives me crazy, but he makes me laugh my head off more often than not. I love seeing who he is now and who he’s quickly becoming. No matter who he is, and where he gets it from, he is perfectly Caleb; I wouldn’t change a thing.
